25th Draw = EARTHQUAKE! DDD: [Voice/Action]

[Backdated to shortly after the earthquake ended.]

[Selphie had woken up earlier that day to a pleasant day and she'd prepared a list of things that she needed to get done. Laundry and cleaning up the apartment were on the top of that list before she felt a rumbling that made her blood run cold. She bolted for the nearest doorway, bracing herself for the shaking that will leave place full of broken plates, spoiled food and destroyed contents. Granted, the quake only lasts a few minutes but they're the longest of her life before she's dashing into her room. She's throwing on clean clothes and tossing some of her belongings (journal, clothes, sentimental items from her friends) into her backpack before slipping into her sneakers. Her Morning Star is attached to the bottom of the backpack.

She stares at the destruction of her home before she's making her way toward the door. She has to get out, it's not safe inside. She doesn't want to be caught inside another explosion or some type of disaster and for the love of Hyne, this is screaming Trabia to her all over again. She stares at it for a couple minutes in wide-eyed horror before closing the door behind her. Whatever's happening today cannot be good before she begins to leave the building. After that, she'll be running through the village, finding as many of her friends and acquaintances as possible.

She'll also help dig people out because she's a SeeD and that's the kind of thing that they'd do in this type of disaster. Inside, she's freaking out but she'll be doing her damned best not to let that show to anybody.]

Is everybody okay?! Check in or I'm coming -- forget it, I'm coming to find you anyway!

Squall, Irvine, Rinoa you all better be alive or I'm kicking your asses.

[The thought of not having a place to call home is unsettling but Selphie nods to the thought of having a safe place to stay. There's some uncertainty in her eyes though.]

Is it okay?

[This would be one of those excellent times for Ceodore to at last learn when not to speak or at least how to lie. Unfortunately, those lessons will not be coming today.]

Not really. But I wanted to ask you to come here for a while. You will stay, right? You can take my room.

[Selphie's not entirely certain right now. Her first instinct is to go find Squall and Rinoa and then the three of them could search for Irvine but the day's been unsettling enough as it is and her attempts to find that idiot cowboy have turned up nothing. And well... Ceodore is there and it's safer here than sleeping outside right now. She nods after a few moments to the idea of her staying.]

Where will you sleep?

One of the empty rooms. Or the couch. Please promise you'll stay. I know you've been alone.

[And he doesn't like it one bit.]

[She was getting used to being alone in that apartment. The quiet wasn't bothering her as much anymore and if she wanted to see people, she just left the apartment and didn't come back for hours on end.

She was afraid to admit that she was getting used to being alone when she'd been surrounded by friends and loved ones her entire life.]

I've been fine by myself.

[For the love of all things holy Ceodore, would you please for once in your life pick up on the fact that the girl standing in front of you is lying through her teeth?]

[He might, but she's made such a point of enforcing that I-can-handle-myself message, going so far as to even hit him at one point, he'll just sigh and take her at her word. And even unintentionally sport the whipped puppy look because even if she insists she's fine, he still worries.]

Please? I'd feel better knowing you weren't alone. I want to protect you.

[He's not going to give up on this and she can tell. Especially when that kicked puppy look comes into play. She's not too keen on this whole "I want to protect you" bit but she can't change the way a person's been raised but maybe she can talk it out of him with a bit of time. Well... she'd try anyway. She always wanted a Prince Charming and well... it's taking some getting used to. But instead of arguing the point, she'll let him win this time.]

...I'll stay. But we protect each other.

[~~You can thank his mother for his deep-rooted stubborn streak and his father for his blind trust.~~ Her acquiescence puts a relieved smile on his face.]

Alright.

Uh, are you tired? Do you need anything?

[Hospitality for the house usually falls under the purview of the women, but since Rosa's still missing and Rydia's off with the brooding jerk, Ceodore feels responsible to make sure Selphie's taken care of.]

[Of course she's tired, silly boy. She's really used to working through tough situations with little sleep but the day's been long, stressful and exhausting.]

A hug and then some sleep would be nice.

Sure.

[The hug he bestows immediately. Then before the temptation to do something more than that becomes too great to resist, he walks over to his dresser and pulls out a spare shirt. It's nothing special, but better than clothes still dirty from post-earthquake detail.]

Here, you can use this.

[Thankful for the hug, Selphie's accepting the offered shirt before pointing to the door. A small smile is on her face though, so she's not mad at him. Yet.]

Out.

R-right.

[See that blush? He'd forgotten he'd need to step out. Which he's now doing, hanging just outside the door for permission to re-enter.]

[Selphie's out of her clothes in about five minutes and into the shirt that Ceodore's lent to her. It hangs down to just above her knees before she shuffles to the door and opens it to let Ceodore back in.]

[Gulp.]

You look amazing.

[His brain has exited the house now. It's taking every drop of restraint he's got to keep his hands off her like a gentleman.]

I, uh...

[Now that Selphie's blushing and attempting to hide that fact with her hands, she'll walk backward toward the bed and plop herself down on it. Boy you better not be getting any ideas. Selphie's too tired to smack you around.]

[He's 17, of course he's getting ideas, and kicking himself for them too. Too bad for him he'll behave himself and re-enter the room with his hands firmly in his pockets.]

Do you need anything else? Another pillow or blanket?

[Boys and their silly ideas. Regardless, Selphie shakes her head.]

No, I'll be fine with what's here. Thank you anyway, though.

[Ceodore nods then just stands there. Awkward! He's got no idea what the protocol is for something like this.]

[Selphie giggles as he just stands there. He doesn't even have to try and cheer her up, he's just doing it without even trying. There really isn't a lot of protocol before she's standing up on her toes and pecks him on the cheek.]

Do you need your bed clothes?

Wel- uh, I-I-I- um yeah, but...

[The peck on the cheek is nice but Ceodore's really distracted now. Give him a moment to collect his thoughts.]

Are... you okay now? Because I can stay. If you want. N-n-not like all night, but uh...

[She's calm and that's the important thing. Disaster's just tend to freak the poor kid out.]

Stay until I fall asleep?

Sure.

[And with that, he gives her a long hug. First things first in this putting the sweetheart to bed business.]

[The minute his arms are wrapping around her, Selphie's eyes are starting to close. If he plans on keeping this hug up for much longer, Ceodore's gonna have to tuck Selphie in.]
