61st Draw is a plea for news [Voice/Action for those in the clinic]

[Selphie's starting to get restless. Of course, she knows that Malaria is deadly unless properly taken care of so she's been obedient. She falls asleep more often than staying awake still but her fever has broken. Some of the colour from the blood loss via the shift hunter bites has returned to her skin but she's still pale from being sick. She's been letting the staff draw up more blood from her than she's liked but they've commented about her being such a good sport about it.

Of course... when the next aide comes in intent on drawing another vial of blood for testing, she frowns and has to bite back a comment about telling them where to shove that butterfly needle. They've drawn blood every day that she's been there and there's only so much of that that she can stand. She moves to pull her arms out of reach to earn a stern chiding about being stubborn and eventually is talked into letting them draw more blood.

She'll reach for the book that Rydia brought her intent on reading for a bit but sleep soon claimed her for another few hours early in the morning until late in the afternoon. The staff hadn't bothered to wake her for lunch but there was a plate covered in plastic wrap that had a peeled apple on it. There was a note under the plate that said, eat this when you wake up but she wasn't particularly hungry at the moment. Her appetite may have returned but it still wasn't particularly big. Instead, she reaches for the glass of water that was beside the apple and sips at that instead. She'd the apple eventually but for now, the water was much nicer to have than to eat something when she didn't want to.

Thankfully, they've decided to let her prop one end of the bed up so she doesn't have to force herself to sit up any longer than she has to. She'll reach for the journal eventually despite being told not to use it often but she's lonely and wants someone to talk to. She isn't aware of the experiment going on either as she's been unaffected by it but for now... she wants to have some noise in her otherwise, eerily quiet room.]

Sooooo... what's going on outside of the clinic walls these days? I'd come and look for myself but well... I'm still not allowed out of bed. I just... really wanna go back to the house and sleep in my own bed. Am I even allowed to sit outside if I'm supervised? Just a little bit of time out in the sun?

Or if anybody's got any interesting little stories to tell, I could go for hearing one of those too.

[She sighs a little bit. It's hard to keep on being cheerful when she's not allowed to do anything.]

Won't they let you out of bed eventually as well?

Oh probably... but not right now.

[When all she just wants to sit outside for a few minutes.]

I suppose we'll have to wait and see. In the meantime, I have many more stories.

Archie, I'm all ears.

Very well. [If you let him, Selphie, he will start on a few of the fairy-stories his nurse used to tell him when he was a boy--the Fox Outwitted, Thomas the Rhymer, Robin Redbreast, and a couple of other Scottish tales and legends he remembers.]

They don't have stories like these where you come from?

[These tales are actually helping to calm her down after encountering people being affected by the experiment... Doctor McCoy wasn't bad but encounters with Ceodore and Cecil have been rather agitating for her.]

I've never heard those ones before either to be honest.

You mustn't be from Scotland, then. Where are you from?

Well... where I come from the world doesn't have a name first off. We've got pretty decent technology, lots of wars being fought, magic, Chocobo's, little blue aliens and it's pretty much like any other world.

Every world must be wracked with war. England and France don't even know why they keep declaring war upon one another, except that we've always done it.

That sounds like war no matter where you go. It's silly, isn't it?

Well. An officer can't make a living otherwise. Perhaps that's why peace is something of a mixed blessing for us.

Now, if there were never any war, there would be no need of officers, and we could all pursue some more productive course with our lives.

Same for us mercenaries.

I'd be out of a job if it weren't for all the fighting back home. It'd be nice if everybody could just get along though.

A lovely lady like you, a mercenary?

[He sounds more than a little surprised. He's close with Buffy, but a fighting woman, especially a lady mercenary, still takes him by surprise.]

You'd be surprised.

I am, actually. Not-not that I don't know fighting women--I'm courting one, actually. It's just...not done, where I come from.

[But it intrigues him, and for his time he's more of a feminist than not, all things considered. But his time was 1802.]

Oooooh, your culture must be like Ceodore's then. Where I come from, we have equal rights.

And how does it feel, to be part of such a world?

To have equal rights? Well... it's a bit of a double-standard to be honest. Women are allowed to whatever the Men can but it doesn't really work the same way around.

So it's backwards from the way I know it?

Where you come from Archie, that's probably normal for you but the way that I described from my world is the normal for me.

Well...what can't the men do?

You know all those things that women normally do? Like... the house cleaning and stuff like that? Wait no... that's a bad example. Stuff like cutting hair, or answering telephones for a living.

Men...can't or won't do such things?

Well they can and there's nothing from stopping them from doing them... it's just a stigma and it sucks.
